3DPrinting

There's nothing super special about this print in particular compared to what people usually post here, just a simple Santa figurine requested by a makerspace patron. However, it's made from 100% pure PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate), a natural polyester byproduct of common soil bacteria. Unlike PLA, it is fully home compostable. It can break down in any biome, in a very reasonable timeframe. Also unlike PLA, you can make it by feeding the bacteria stuff like old fast food fryer oil, and other waste products. The print settings are pretty similar to PLA, but it has some significant differences in material properties, like being less brittle.

I made a case to protect my darts when taking them somewhere. Here are some more images. The case was made to fit a specific model and it's not very parametric till then end, so I'm afraid it's not super useful for others.

It is a well explained and documented build with a nice synchronized 895 based idler shaft type gearbox subassembly.

The bowden tube between the extruder and hotend somehow got unscrewed, and the extruder just kept unspooling filament around the room, as the printer kept happily going on.

You might recall that I tried printing this fake lens last week and found it quite challenging.

How is the build chamber in your 3D-printer heated? Is there any thermal insulation and if how thick is it?

I have a cheap bedslinger, an Anycubic Kobra 2, and generally it's a pretty decent printer at the price. I have flashed klipper FW on it, so I'm not using Anycubics FW.

These have to be the least accurate things I have ever seen.

I am in the process of buttoning up a Nitehawk conversion on my Voron. I also replaced my extruder thermistor with an OE replacement purchased from a reputable vendor.

This is so that it’s easier to plugin old and new consoles without having to go on my hands and knees to Plug and unplug consoles.

In the process of refining the design for my 3D printed glasses (yes, I'm still at it 🙂) and trying to streamline the lens ordering process a bit, because some folks have told me their optician, or their optician's lens supplier, didn't really want to mess with "unusual" things like this, I decided to draw and print a fake ophthalmic lens. You know, not optical-quality - or even see-through - but something that looks and feels like a lens, that can be mounted in my frames, to show an optician hands-on how it works and that it's not weird or delicate to work on.

My buddy has a cold plunge and this filter started cracking. After looking at it you can tell it's definitely 3d printed (and well)

I needed some film canisters for 120 film and turns out they're actually hard to find.

I made this custom case for my 3D printed spectacles:

This was an ornament I printed roughly 6 years ago. Being a Christmas ornament it spent most of those 6 years stored in my roof space.

I was lucky to spend 4 beautiful years with a Creality Ender 3 v2 that I modded to the brim and never failed to deliver quality prints. I never had to adjust, calibrate or tweak anything regarding print quality.

The filament came out during a print and I don't know what layer it came out at. I've spent a lot of filament on this print, so is there any way to continue it?

I'm designing a case for a dew-point ventilator controller to be 3d printed. The controller is implemented using arduino on an esp32. The project is based off of the code and HW implementation by Make Magazine Germany: https://github.com/MakeMagazinDE/Taupunktluefter. When starting out I was thinking this would be an easy project but it turned out that especially the lid with its lip and groove design and the parts fixations were not that easy. I'm excited to finally print it.

Hi, I have printed a small holder for a Bowden tube to print from my filament dryer outside of the enclosure, but the filament coming out of the tube is tensioned and I don’t know if it will cause problems later. Is this fine to keep or how can I fix this? This i a Ender 3 V3 SE btw.

This is the worst possible setup to print living hinges: PLA isn't terribly flexible, and here the flexible bits have to be printed vertically, which really isn't ideal to withstand cracking.

So my trusty USB-C Dongle which I use to connect my switch to a TV on the road is dying. The cable has frayed and I don't want to touch it any more.

Portable bike stands take up a lot of floor space and suck to deploy and collapse every day. I'm in the process of converting the main stand upright tubes and head to attach to the side of a toolbox cart instead of the base of the portable stand.

11 pumpkins printed! The bodies and stems are printed separately and glued together. (I'm not rich enough to have a multi material machine.) gonna give em out at the office.

After tuning my vref, the printer was missing steps still. I pulled the trigger and am swapping from the 4.2.2 to the 4.2.7 creality board to see if that resolves the issue.

Really happy with how it turned out! Decided to show it off to strangers for now as I haven't given it to him yet and i know he isn't on here. 😆. And it lights up!

Even though it's only research and nowhere near silicon in terms of effectiveness, I find the prospect of maybe one day being able to print simple circuits very exciting :)
