Started next book in the Dresden Files series, Ghost Story by Jim Butcher. This is book 13, and is pretty unique so far. The previous book "Changes" has changed quite a bit, and now we are living those changes.

In middle school I read The Three Musketeers and enjoyed it overall. Later in high school a movie adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo was released and I enjoyed it enough to read the book. I feel like I lucked out in picking up the Robin Buss translation. It was a recent translation based on the most complete original texts he could find. He explained how the first anonymous English translations would sometimes edit the story to fit English sensibilities of the era or simply not be very good at translation. The book is full of endnotes explaining things, like references that would’ve been obvious to contemporary readers but are largely lost to anglophones over a century later, or things that simply don’t translate well, like an important scene where a character uses the formal vous tense instead of the informal/familiar tu tense but this distinction doesn’t exist in modern English. It made me want to re-read The Three Musketeers in a translation by Buss, but the only other Dumas work he translated before his death at the age of 67 in 2006 was The Black Tulip.
I just finished a re-read of Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells to coincide with the AppleTV show being released they work well for quite a few bingo squares with 5E Jerk with a Heart of Gold*, and *1E Now a Major Motion Picture* being the most prominent. I’m now working through the Amra Thetys series starting with *The Thief Who Pulled on Trouble's Braids* by Michael McClung. I read the first book for a past bingo and really enjoyed it, so now I'm finishing the series. They work for the*2A Independent Author bingo square for sure

I have volume 1 of Kim Il Sung’s works in English - printed in North Korea in the 70’s. I don’t know if the Foreign Languages Publishing House survived long enough for a Volume 2. They did put out some of Jong’s thoughts on film, if I recall correctly.
I've tried a couple times over the years to use Calibre to de-DRM my library. Previous attempts ended in failure. This community helped me find a way to fix my audio books, which inspired me to take one last shot at my kindle library.
So "genderpocalypse" is a typically postapocalypic, but not always sci-fi subgenre where one gender survives and another gets some disease, turns into a zombie, disappears, etc. Sometimes there's meaningful reflection on the relationships between men and women. Sometimes it can be really trashy.

I'm finishing up The Golden Enclaves, the last of the Scholomance Series by *Naomi Novik*. It fulfills **The Jerk with a Heart of Gold* square, but in getting in to it, it also fits the LGBTQIA+* representation square. I've gotten started on so many great series in the last few years doing reading challenges and this year I'm going to try and get caught up with a bunch of them. I'm super excited!
I don't know what it is but I feel like there is something especially enjoyable about reading on a train or bus. Like I would be fine with making my commute longer because it dosen't feel like wasted time since I am reading. Also its just nice to be stuck somewhere for a bit with nothing to do but wait and be forced to read.
The authors who manage to clear the low bar of incorporating characters/communities from diverse cultures into their fiction without cultural appropriation/stereotyping/racism... who are they and how do they do it?

On World Book Day, I just have to remind you about the masterpiece of a series Black Books — the one they went and cancelled, even though the ratings were top-notch.
I consider myself a writer. However, I fear writing, and I fear publishing more. For writing is agonising. And, I don't dare to publish until I really have a story to tell. My fear accumulated over time by reading more, by reading books just like this. And, I will tell my fellow writers this: If you are not really as serious as Danielewski, Borges, Tagore, Pessoa, or Jibanananda, stop writing.

This post has been written with the intention of starting a conversation surrounding the discourse about dark romance, because I am tired of seeing opinions that are pure black and white from both sides. Feel free to disagree or agree with this post, I am only here to share my personal opinion.
I've had this book for quite some while. My presence in Austria and exposure to philosophers working on Nazi-era biologists made me realize that a few of the historical German biologists that I've come to know and admire are actually successful and/or famous because they collaborated or are part of the Nazi rule over science.
Shroud is a really good piece of hard sci-fi that explores first contact with an alien intelligence. It has creative world building, good characters, and a creative take on alien life.
It was talked about like a really big deal, and that it dealt a blow towards the Controlled Digital Lending-scheme. IA also had to remove 500k books. But how is Internet Archive able to keep continuing lending out many books as they were before? What were the real consequences of Hachette v. Internet Archive?
After about thirteen years I decided to give this a reread and realized I did forget a lot of it. It took longer to read due to the parallels between the state of the world and it's themes. I kept having to put it down for a few days. Most of the book is a simple read with only the last third becoming emotionally more difficult.
"Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil" examines the trial of Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi bureaucrat instrumental in organizing the Holocaust. Eichmann was captured by Israeli agents in Argentina in 1960 and tried in Jerusalem for crimes against humanity. Hannah Arendt controversially described Eichmann as "terrifyingly normal," emphasizing his thoughtlessness and blind obedience to orders rather than inherent sadism or hatred. He executed his role as a logistical organizer of mass deportations and killings with bureaucratic efficiency, seeing himself as a law-abiding citizen fulfilling his duties.
