Steam Deck

As is now a tradition (this is my 7th of these posts - after rejoining Lemmy just 28 days ago!) you'll know the drill.

This is a BIG announcement by Junk Store for Steam Deck. What was previously a plugin via Decky to play Epic Games and GOG titles on your Steam Deck is now...well, if you read it, it's a whole lot more.

As you're most probably used to by now, this is just my initial warning that what follows is my ranting and rambling about both Steam Deck-specific(ish) news, and general gaming news I've spotted and seems interesting to me.

This is obviously a promotion for the game at launch, when it went live there were no reviews, but the reviews are coming in now, and are giving a rating of Very Positive (with 283 ratings at the time of writing this!)

Man, this is great.... if/when it happens. I won't trust them until I see it. And some say that valve just rated it as "unplayable". Will see.

Also as a reminder, they offer 3D printable versions of many of their products and accessories for free, which is pretty cool.

I've been playing this through proton for awhile now, and it's a lot of fun. 1v1 death matches are really intense, and the game has a huge variety of maps and weapons.

So...this one is a bit left-of-field.

Games can have different assets downloads for desktop vs Deck, you don't need 4k textures and videos for Deck games.

This is an interesting take, especially coming from a non-gaming focused tech website like Ars Technica. I feel like it's been too long since people were truly hyped about half life 3 though, and this wouldn't be enough, even if Valve did go through with it.

# # # After my previous post 24 hours ago (the link to which is here), I asked you all if the way I share *mostly* Steam Deck news here is okay, and if you'd enjoy more of these.

I got the hell outta the US a couple of months ago, and had to ditch my main PC and home server due to shipping costs (kept all my drives, of course). This left me with just a laptop and the Deck -- but, after the laptop's screen kaput, I was left with just a USB-C dock and the deck to get me by! I was worried I'd be walled in a bit by the deck's read-only system, plus my unfamiliarity with Arch (I'm a bit new to the linux game, and have been mostly main-ing Debian distros so far)... but I've been pleasantly surprised at how much is doable, given the constraints! In fact, besides DaVinci Resolve, I don't think there's anything I *haven't* been able to get running!

Unlike current FSR, FSR4 will only work on new AMD chips using the RDNA4 architecture. AMD is claiming pretty major improvements over the current FSR3 results, but it being hardware specific means that it won't directly benefit the current steam deck. However it could be one of significant hardware improvements that we would see in a steam deck 2.

Raid: World War II, you might remember this game coming out? I don't. It certainly has a bland name (though you can't fault it for being unclear about what the game is lol) but suffice to say the story goes that on release this game flopped compared to similar co-op heist/raid shooters like it even though the development team was well situated to make a hit on paper.

Mostly sharing this for Marvel Rivals, since Indiana Jones still probably runs poorly on Deck due to mandatory ray tracing.

It has flip out thumb stick locks to protect the thumb sticks as well, and can be used as a kickstand in the back of the deck.

Hadean Tactics, Backpack Hero, Death Roads Tournament and The Way Ash Of Gods are all great deckbuilders for $16

Has anyone had success getting FreeTube to run full screen when in game mode? I've messed with settings to no success, and can't find anything online about it either. It always has black bars top and bottom that take up a good portion of the screen.

For anyone unfamiliar with DeckFilter, it's an android/iphone app that lets you view info on games from your library and wishlist.

I'd also recommend SteamDeckHQ's recommended couch co-op games list. This one isn't limited to games $5 and under.

It's debatable whether this belongs in the Steam Deck community, but these are all high profile games, and having to login with additional online accounts is a significant barrier to play on the Deck.
