"Smoke on the water and fire in the sky"

A pic overlooking the channel, waves lapping at the shore and the gray clouds in the distance are in the distinct shape of a mermaid. Her hair is blowing to the right, her back is slightly turned toward us with an arm coyly over her chest. Her tail is bent back - she appears to be sitting on it.

The sky has many different types of clouds, ranging from dark gray in a large band across the top to a very distinct cumulus on the right, with its edges glowing white. There are other random, drawn out clouds across the blue sky in the distance. The clouds are reflected in the small bit of ocean left at low tide. The pic is framed with a few tree branches on the right and left. Small islands are seen in the distance. The whole pic glows silver - a gift of the light.

Now that is one hell of an Alaska blue sky

Pure cobalt blue sky with a few very white puffy clouds drifting by. At the bottom of the pic is a bit of river and a golden field of grasses in the estuary. behind are trees in various shades of green, going up toward sharp mountains also covered in trees. On the left is a fir tree that looks like a Christmas tree in its proportions.

Now that is one hell of an Alaska blue sky. This is Starrigaven estuary....at one end of our 14 miles of road in Sitka.

A very calm ocean all in pink, reflecting the pink/pale peach of the sky. There is a bright, full moon in the sky, its trail also reflected in the water. There is a dark, tiny island on the right of the horizon, and and even smaller one in the middle.

I saw these shades of pastel during the winter in the Interior; both the snow and sky. Alaska can be remarkably delicate at times. This was down a Port Alexander, southern tip of Baranof Island, Cape Ommaney. (aka "Cape Ominous")
