Oh, this is double hard, isn't it. My initial thought was that it was a confusion between paedology and pedology (in my head something to do with feet!). But it's actually soil science... TIL :)

I'm totally here for the sentiment, but I think it's just because the average person might not know one or the other of these words. They're both pretty specific in their usage.
Etymologoid is something like the history of a word.
